Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with increasing prevalence and a global health challenge. Successful DM management depends heavily on patients' self-management skills, including adherence to medication, dietary management, physical activity, and blood glucose monitoring. However, low patient compliance remains a major factor contributing to complications and a reduced quality of life. Advances in digital technology offer opportunities to improve the effectiveness of health education through the use of accessible and interactive mobile applications.

This Student Creativity Program (PKM) aims to optimize mobile app-based diabetes self-management education to improve adherence in diabetes patients. The method used includes the development and implementation of an application that provides diabetes education, medication reminders, blood sugar level recording, physical activity monitoring, and regular consultations and evaluations. The program targets outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Evaluation is conducted by measuring patient adherence levels before and after application use using validated instruments.

The expected outcomes of this program are increased patient knowledge and skills in self-managing their disease, increased adherence to therapy and a healthy lifestyle, and the availability of innovative and sustainable digital educational media. Therefore, the use of mobile apps is expected to be an effective solution to support diabetes mellitus management and reduce the risk of long-term complications.
