Positive Feeding Practices Among Toddlers in Poor Fishing Families

Abstract

Toddlers have a vulnerability to nutritional problems; their growth and development are influenced by family feeding patterns. Positive feeding practices can help maintain the nutritional condition of children in families living in limited food. The study aimed to explore positive feeding behavior in toddlers in poor fishing family’s environment in Sei Barah Village. The study applied a qualitative approach to narrative design. The participants included of five mothers from poor fishing families who had toddlers with normal status, four supporting informants. Data collection through in-depth interviews, data is analyzed descriptively to describe the research findings. The findings of the study are positive feeding practices in toddlers, including the use of seafood as the main food source of the family, the use of market vegetables that are still suitable for consumption, food processing adapted to the child's age stage, the implementation of a regular meal schedule, the creation of a comfortable and pleasant eating atmosphere. The conclusion, positive practices that have developed need to be recognized and strengthened, increased attention to the process of growth and development, strengthening positive feeding is the basis for improving the nutritional status of children in the family.
